Build at the table

Honey ranch burgers

The sauce is the extra bit here: ranch with honey and mustard stirred in. Make it before you cook the burgers, then put the toppings on the table so everyone can help themselves.

Before you start

You'll need: A hot skillet or grill · A food thermometer · A small bowl for the sauce

  • Try not to squeeze the beef too tightly when you shape the patties. They only need to hold together.
  • Use prepared ranch dressing for the sauce. Stir in the honey and mustard before you start cooking so it is ready to serve.
  • Lettuce, tomato and cheese are optional. Keep them separate until the patties are cooked.
01

Stir the honey ranch

Stir the ranch, honey, and mustard together in a small bowl. That's the sauce done; cover it while you cook the burgers.

Shape and cook the patties

A little dent in the middle helps them cook evenly. Cook to 160°F in the center, and add cheese right at the end if you’re using it.

Put the burgers together

Add a cooked patty to each bun with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and honey ranch as you like. Put any extra sauce on the table.

Swaps and a few things to watch for

Swaps

  • Ground turkey works; cook it to 165°F instead.
  • Any favorite dressing can replace the ranch. Keep the honey and mustard.
  • Leave out the cheese or tomato if you don't want them.

If you need to adjust things

Keep the sauce and fresh toppings separate until serving so the buns hold up. For an even cook, shape patties to a similar thickness and check the center of each with a food thermometer.

What to serve with it

A salad, oven potatoes, or some sliced vegetables are all good alongside. Use whichever buns you like.

Storing leftovers

Refrigerate cooked patties within two hours (one hour above 90°F), in shallow containers at 40°F or below, keeping the sauce and toppings separate. Use the patties within 3–4 days and reheat to 165°F.
